Causes and Genetics

DPN is believed to have a genetic component, with 40-50% of individuals reporting a family history of the condition. The development of DPN is thought to be due to a developmental defect in the hair follicle, known as a naevoid defect.

Milia (Milk Spots)

Understanding Milia

The Tiny, Unwanted Bumps on Your Skin

Milia can appear suddenly as small, painless white bumps on your skin. While they're minuscule and almost unnoticeable, their presence can be frustrating. You might be tempted to pop them, hoping to smooth out your skin's texture.

However, milia don't respond to squeezing; no pus, no blood—just an unexplainable bump that refuses to budge.

So, what's really going on?

Milia are tiny cysts made of keratin, a protein found in the outermost layer of your skin, hair, and nails. They form when dead skin cells become trapped under the skin's surface.

1-3 Milia 15 mins €75

4-10 Milia 30 mins €90

What's the Difference

Between a Mole and a Skin Tag?

Moles, or nevi, are

Moles and skin tags are common skin growths that appear for different reasons. While they are usually harmless, moles carry a higher risk for cancer compared to skin tags.

Moles

Moles are clusters of pigmented cells that often appear as small, dark brown spots. They can be present at birth or develop over time, especially with sun exposure.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small, soft pieces of skin that often appear on the neck, armpits, and under the breasts. They are typically flesh-coloured and hang off the skin.

When to Be Concerned About Moles

Your General Practitioner (GP) can perform a skin lesion biopsy if your moles show any of the ABCDEs of melanoma:

A: Asymmetry - One half of the mole does not match the other half.

B: Border - The edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred.

C: Colour - The colour is not uniform and may include shades of brown, black, pink, red, white, or blue.

D: Diameter - The mole is larger than 1/4 inch (0.635 cm) across.

E: Evolving - The mole is changing in size, shape, or colour, or is causing new symptoms like itching, crusting, or bleeding.

At Advanced Aesthetic Clinic, we do not remove moles. However, we encourage you to consult your GP if you notice any concerning changes.
